No robbery at LC Market

Following an investigation yesterday, the Department of Public Safety was able to confirm that the surveillance footage of a supposed robbery on Saipan that went viral did not, in fact, happen here.

According to a press statement from DPS, the department did not receive any report of a store robbery over the weekend but, because of the video, officers were dispatched to check on all stores and to follow up if this incident did take place. The video of the robbery allegedly took place at LC Market in Gualo Rai. After meeting with several store owners, DPS confirmed that the incident did not happen.

“The CNMI Department of Public Safety noticed a certain security footage of a store robbery making its way through online platforms stating that the incident occurred over the weekend on the island of Saipan. This is false,” DPS stated.

Saipan Tribune also reached out to LC Market on Middle Road on Sunday at around 4pm. After speaking with the store’s manager, who withheld his name, Saipan Tribune learned that the video may not even be from a store on Saipan.

“Police came here to ask us, too, but we are OK. I saw that video on the internet but it’s not us. I don’t think it’s here on Saipan,” he said.
