Plant a native tree on Saturday

In celebration of March 21 as International Day of Forests, the Micronesia Conservation Trust is encouraging everyone to plant at least one native tree on Saturday.

There will no formal ceremony where people can gather to do the tree planting. Instead, MCT encourages people to plant the tree, individually and in one’s own area, in consideration of the social distancing directives.

“Because of this unprecedented situation we face today with COVID-19, a formal ceremony where people come together on Saturday is not encouraged; however, should you be interested in planting a tree, do so individually in the comfort of your own area, farm or backyard,” Micronesia Challenge terrestrial champion Roseo Marquez said.

In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March the International Day of Forests. The theme for 2020 is “Forest and Biodiversity.”

MCT, to celebrate, encourages everyone to join Micronesia in its #plantatreechallenge by planting at least one native tree this Saturday, March 21. They are also asking those who would be joining to take a photo with the plant, and share and tag Micronesia Conservation Trust..
