CPA still waiting for shipment of thermal body scanner
The Commonwealth Ports Authority is now waiting for shipment of the $35,000 thermal body scanner that will be used to detect the body temperature of passengers arriving at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport to prevent the entry of the novel coronavirus.
CPA executive director Christopher S. Tenorio informed CPA board members during a board meeting last week that CPA purchased the thermal body scanner from Cantronic Systems Canada and that the wire transfer for the item was completed last March 5.
“CPA is working with the vendor and forwarders to have the item air freighted as soon as possible,” Tenorio said.
Last Feb. 6, CPA issued an emergency notice and expenditure of funds to procure the thermal body scanner for use at the airport.
The scanner will be used to monitor passengers and assist in identifying individuals with signs and symptoms of the COVID-19.
Last Feb. 25, the CPA board of directors approved the purchase.
Tenorio also disclosed that CPA received $1.2 million of Federal Emergency Management Agency reimbursements last Feb. 28.
Tenorio said the amount received is for full payment of projects which include expenses for personnel and for emergency protective measures.
