Mount Carmel School will host a Family Movie Night tomorrow, Friday, March 4, in the school’s central quad, featuring family-friendly short films as well as the film premiere of the school’s 2019 production of Tasi.

Inspired by Disney’s Moana, Tasi was an original story written by club adviser and school president Dr. Galvin Deleon Guerrero, that follows Tasi as she struggles between family expectations, traditions, and her own aspirations. Featuring music from and about the islands, last year’s performances of Tasi sold out on all nights and proved to be a crowd favorite

Tasi was directed by Kalea Borja, who said she was excited to “present our local culture. I believe that we need to promote our local culture and embrace it, and Tasi did just that!”

“Just like our islands were ‘Marianas Strong’ in recovering from the typhoon, our cast and crew members were ‘Knight Strong’ in pushing through with the show,” she added.

The school has established a strong film and theatre program, with over 50 productions being presented over the past two decades, including Disney musicals, plays by William Shakespeare, and numerous original productions, including the award-winning films in the We Drank Our Tears series.

Deleon Guerrero invites all members of the community to enjoy themselves at the Family Movie Night. “We will have chairs and benches available, but feel free to bring a blanket, sleeping bags, or lawn chairs, and lounge out as we feature films for the whole family.”

Admission for the movie night is $5 and the movies run from 7pm to about 9pm.  In the event of rain, the venue will be moved to the school’s auditorium. For more information, call 234-6184 or visit www.mountcarmelsaipan.com. (PR)
