The Commonwealth Cancer Association held a health outreach at the Kagman Community Center last Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, to educate the public about its programs and to allow people to avail of health services on site.
Those services included blood pressure readings and blood glucose test. There was also information on the Commonwealth Office of Transport Authority and their sliding fees, fire safety tips, and Integrated Behavioral Health Services. Medicare patients were assisted in obtaining Medicare cards, and some saw the oral cancer documentary, Chew.
This was the second Health & Wellness village outreach of CCA and was done with the Kagman Community Health Center, the Division of Public Health, Comprehensive Cancer Control program, the Division of Youth Services, and the Department of Fire and Emergency Management Services.
The outreach was also an opportunity for CCA to inform the community about the upcoming 2020 Marianas March Against Cancer event.
The major focuses of the outreach were:
1. To avail and respond to immediate individual health and wellness needs;
2. To provide opportunities for people to learn more about the CCA and its partners programs and services; and
3. To involve residents at the village-level in the discussion of ideas and recommendations on how to better address health and wellness in the community.
A 3rd Health & Wellness Village Outreach is being planned for Wednesday, March 25, 2020, from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Carolinian Utt.
