Lemons Make Lemonade—Citrus Clemency

“Let us use it while we may; snatch those joys that haste away.”
—Italian poet Giovanni Battista Guarini writing on Beauty

How often I would sin and how sour my lemonade
Then your sweetness and light like honey would invade
Then my transgressions and “my bad” would fade
Your heartfelt homily helps me call a spade a spade
All the wrong roads I took all the wrong paths I trod
Ultimately led to thorny beds of roses I swear to God
As though the steep stairway to heaven resembled
A throng of angels with love and kindness assembled
The orange grove the lemon bushes unripe and sour
Now kissed by sunny disposition and the light of love
Grow stronger and sweeter by the day and by the hour
Blessed by radiant reality from high in heaven above
Look homeward my angel shed your love light on me
Long dead those kind words said shall now set me free.

Twisting Turns Into Torrid Tango

“Then come to me in dreams, my love
I will not ask a dearer bliss;
Come with the starry beams, my love
And press mine eyelids with thy kiss.”
—Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, author of Frankenstein

Please go with me to the dance tonight my love
we’ll dance the dirty boogie and do the Twist
hear the Platters and Chubby Checker from above
end each slow dance with a slow French kiss
I’ll make you blueberry pancakes for breakfast
with butter and syrup from the Vermont Maid
we’ll drink some hot cocoa then go take a rest
after we get a  motel and the bill has been paid
we may not be able get any sleep at all tonight
wrapped tight in each others arms we will be
changing positions first to the left then right
first I’ll do this to you, then you do that to me
come with me to the dance so we can unwind
we’ll boogie bump and grind and lose our mind.
