Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang swore in Kaelani Babauta Demapan as the newest board member of the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance yesterday at the Saipan Mayor’s Office.
“I feel very honored to be a part of the board and I look forward to working with our current board members to be able to have a balance,” said Demapan. She also added that she hopes to fulfill the duties that the late Ursula Lifoifoi-Aldan, who passed away last September, had done during her term.
Demapan will continue to serve the remaining term of Lifoifoi-Aldan’s term making SHEFA’s board members complete.
She will be part of SHEFA’s Policy and Procedures Committee.
Demapan expects to work with current board members along with the community to find ways to provide more financial assistance to students which includes the Northern Marianas College, Northern Marianas Technical Institution, as well as off-island students.
Apatang nominated Demapan to the SHEFA board due to her accomplished academic track.
Demapan also received help from SHEFA and the CNMI Scholarship Fund during her time pursuing her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Chaminade University in Honolulu, where she finished cum laude then continued to further her education and earned a master’s degree in Higher Education from the University of Michigan.
