Kilili announces 2020 Congressional Art Competition
WASHINGTON, D.C.—High school students in the Northern Mariana Islands are invited to participate in the 12th Annual Congressional Art Competition. The winning artist from the Northern Marianas will have his or her artwork publicly displayed at the U.S. Capitol for one year, receive an invitation to the national winner’s reception in Washington, D.C., and may be eligible for scholarships to the Savannah College of Art and Design.
CNMI students have been participating in this contest since 2009.
Delegate Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP), along with Rep. Warren Davidson of Ohio’s 8th district, is this year’s chairman for the national competition.
The competition is free and open to all high school students. Students have until Friday, April 24, 2020, at 5pm to submit their artwork to the congressional office on Saipan, Tinian, or Rota.
Artwork submissions must be two-dimensional. Eligible artwork includes paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media art, computer-generated art, and photography.
This year’s submissions will be judged based on originality, technical difficulty, creativity, communication, effectiveness, and overall appearance. A panel of local artists will select the winning entry.
