The CNMI Women Association, in collaboration with the Women’s Affairs Office, will be kicking off the Woman’s Month this March with a proclamation signing at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe on Feb. 28.
The overall purpose of Woman’s Month is to celebrate women and to highlight the essential roles that they play. The CWA has various events that are coming up with a theme that is focused on continuing to raise women leading sustainable development.
“Oftentimes women are only recognized as being leaders of their home but not recognized for being leaders in government or even entrepreneurship,” said CWA board member Sharina Clark. It’s therefore important and empowering for young girls to see that they aren’t limited in how they will grow up to be, that there are many things they can achieve in other spheres like business and politics, Clark added.
One of their main events is the Women Exposition that will be held on March 24; the CWA will showcase women entrepreneurs and artists, since not many people know who they are or what home businesses are available.
The CWA is inviting the public to witness the proclamation signing on Feb. 28 at the Multi-Purpose Center and to also witness other activities that will be happening throughout the week.
“This is really important to highlight the success of women and what’s happening around us,” said Women’s Affairs Office’s Shirley Camacho-Ogumoro. “It’s our time and we want to make sure that everyone’s comfortable and they’re there to witness what’s going on too.”
