Annual MIFICPA tax seminar set
The Marianas Institute of Filipino CPAs and Accountants will be hosting this year’s tax seminar on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, from 8am to 12pm, at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe. Registration starts at 7:30am. This seminar is open to all, including non-accountants.
The seminar will be conducted by David J. Burger, managing partner of Burger, Comer & Magliari.
As part of a new board resolution, all current members/new applicants shall be required to submit the following: filled up membership form; diploma/certification that you finished an accounting course; certificate of membership shall be issued upon request.
MIFICPA will be having a fundraising for the Taal Volcano victims by selling the the 25th Anniversary MIFICPA T-shirts and souvenir program for $5 each until supplies last. Also, it will be placing a donation box during the seminar for those who would like to donate. It will later be turned over to the office of Philippine honorary consul to the CNMI Glicerio “Eli” Arago after the seminar.

500 Sails offers free swim classes to women in February and March
In partnership with Commonwealth Women’s Association, 500 Sails is offering free swim classes for women and girls 12 and older through the Sirena Project. Below are the newly announced March dates, including two Fridays.
Saturdays this February and March 2020, plus on March 20 and March 27. All classes are from 10am to 11am at Guma Sakman; all levels welcome.Bring a water bottle, swim clothes, a towel, and a friend.

Teen poetry slam competition invites youth
The Northern Marianas Coalition Against Domestic & Sexual Violence will be hosting Teen Poetry Slam 2020 on Feb. 28, starting at 6pm, at the Hyatt Regency Saipan.
This event is intended to raise awareness during Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month in February 2020 and is open to ages 13 to 19. To participate, sign up by Feb. 19, 2020.
Those ages 13-19 are invited to perform their original poetry. Those interested in competing must submit their poems and contact information for review to info@EndViolenceNMI.org before or by 11:59pm on Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020.
Poem submissions must include the contestant’s full name, age, name of school, and contact number(s). Submissions may be sent within the body of the email, as a Word document, or as a PDF to info@EndViolenceNMI.org . E-File & Serve having technical glitches
The CNMI Judiciary’s electronic filing system, E-File & Serve, is currently experiencing technical difficulties. Until further notice, all persons seeking to file and serve with either the Supreme Court or the Superior Court must file and serve in accordance with the Commonwealth Rules of Practice and the Commonwealth Rules for Electronic Filing and Service. Kagman schools set PTSA meeting
The February Parents Teachers Students Association meeting of the Kagman Unified Schools has been moved to Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2020. The venue is at the Kagman High School cafeteria starting at 5:30pm. All parents and guardians are being encouraged to attend this meeting. Child care will be provided.
