LB employees given 14-hour notice on 64-hour schedule
The Northern Marianas Commonwealth Legislature’s Legislative Bureau sent Friday a notice to all Legislative Bureau employees about the implementation of the 64-hour work schedule effective March 15.
Legislative Bureau director Antonio P. Sablan informed all LB employees that his letter shall serve as the 14 days’ notice of a work hour reduction of 16 hours per pay period—from 80 hours to 64 hours—and shall be applied every Friday.
Sablan said the duration of this reduction will be subject to availability of funds and shall be effective on March 15 and last until Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres lifts the austerity measures.
The director said that, based on Torres’ communication dated Feb. 7, the governor cited the projections made by Finance Secretary David DLG Atalig in indicating his intention to make across-the-board cuts to the fiscal Year 2020 budget resources of the CNMI government, including the Legislative Bureau in the amount of 28.3%.
Saipan Tribune learned that there are about 26 to 27 employees at the Legislative Bureau that will be affected by the 16-hour cut.
Atalig had informed Torres that the increased number of cancellations in flights from China has prompted them to revise the annual revenue estimates for the fiscal year, from an initial projected decrease in gross revenues of $39.20 million to $48.38 million.
Atalig disclosed that gross revenue estimates for the current fiscal year are now expected at $184,834,810, which is a decrease of $48,387,717 from $233,222,527 that is appropriated under Public Law 21-08.
