PDM Promoters collected 540 lbs of trash during its January cleanup of Paseo de Marianas on Martin Luther King Day last Jan. 20.
A total of 34 volunteers showed up for the monthly cleanup: 27 members of the Saipan Awaodori Team and seven employees of Kinpachi Restaurant.
“We did our first cleanup for 2020 last Martin Luther King Day because the children didn’t have any school. It’s getting harder to ask them to volunteer on the weekends because they’re very busy,” said PDM Promoters coordinator Sonia Siwa.
Last month’s cleanup began at 9am and covered the areas of Paseo de Marianas, Coral Tree Avenue, American Memorial Park Road, Beach Road, and their connecting alleyways.
PDM Promoters’ monthly cleanups are usually held every Saturday and are supported by the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality and the non-profit’s major sponsors, T-Galleria and TSL Foundation.
Siwa said T-Galleria and TSL Foundation’s support enables them to have the cleaning materials needed for their cleanups. Kinpachi Restaurant, meanwhile, provides the meal and snacks for the volunteers.
Volunteers of PDM Promoters will be at it again in February when it conducts its second monthly cleanup of 2020.
