Man who beat up wife over a bouquet pleads guilty

A man who allegedly beat his common-law wife for catching a bouquet thrown by a bride during a wedding party that they had attended pleaded guilty last Monday.
Christopher M. Wabol, 42, pleaded guilty last Monday to assault and battery (domestic violence) before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho.
Pursuant to the plea agreement, Wabol would be sentenced to one year in prison, all suspended, and given credit for the five days he has already served.
Camacho scheduled Wabol’s sentencing hearing for June 26 at 9am.
According to Saipan Tribune archives, Wabol was originally arrested for assault and battery-domestic violence, and disturbing the peace.
Police said the victim had bruises on the left side of her face and a small cut inside her lower lip.
According to police detective Eugene O. Dillay, preliminary investigation showed that Wabol and his live-in partner had just attended a wedding party in Kagman III when the alleged beating happened.
At the wedding, Wabol reportedly got mad at his partner for catching the bouquet thrown by the bride. (It’s a customary idea that the girl who catches the bride’s bouquet will be the next one who will get married).
Wabol allegedly called his wife to their car, where he allegedly punched her repeatedly in the face.
The victim told police that she, Wabol, and their 6-year-old daughter left the wedding shortly after.
The victim said when they arrived home, Wabol continued beating her. She said she was still in the passenger seat of the car when Wabol pulled her out. As she was walking to the front door of their house, Wabol allegedly lifted her from behind, slammed her to the ground, and began beating her.
She said their daughter, who was inside the car, witnessed the beating.
The victim said Wabol punched her repeatedly on the left side of her face and upper left chest, causing injuries.
