SNILD confirms Demapan as SHEFA board member

The Saipan & Northern Islands Legislative Delegation confirmed Tuesday the nomination of Kaelani Marie B. Demapan as a member of the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance board.
“I feel very honored to be part of the board,” said Demapan, who is an early intervention counselor with the Northern Marianas College.
Demapan said that among the things that the SHEFA board needs to consider is to provide financial assistance to those who are pursuing higher education here on Saipan.
At the confirmation hearing last Jan. 31, the Legislative Delegation, chaired by Rep. John Paul P. Sablan (R-Saipan), moved to confirm Demapan’s nomination.
Demapan will serve the remaining two years of CNMI chief probation officer Ursula Lifoifoi-Aldan, who passed away last September.
Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang, who nominated Demapan to the SHEFA board, earlier said that, with an accomplished academic track, he believes that Demapan would bring to the table new ideas about how SHEFA can continue to assist college students and trade school students realize their ambition in pursuing their higher education and skills training.
Demapan, herself a recipient of SHEFA and CNMI Scholarship Fund, graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Chaminade University in Honolulu and earned a master’s degree in Higher Education from the University of Michigan.
