Increased military activities due to Cope North
Commonwealth residents are being advised not to be alarmed if they see several military aircrafts in the CNMI this week as these are part of the Cope North 2020 Exercise.
According to a joint advisory issued yesterday by the Commonwealth Bureau of Military Affairs, Commonwealth Ports Authority, and CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Commonwealth residents are being informed of “active airflow activities within the Mariana Islands Range Complex.”
It said that military flight patterns will be in the vicinity of Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and the Northern Islands beginning this week as part the Cope North exercise, an annual, bilateral exercise designed for multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief training activities, inclusive of a large-force employment conducted jointly by the Department of Defense and allies to enhance interoperability and mission readiness among multinational partners, such as Australia, Japan and the Republic of Korea.
The joint advisory was issued to inform members of the public not to be alarmed by the increased military airflow activities associated with the exercise.
