In an effort to help improve the overall efficiency of elections held in the CNMI, the Commonwealth Election Commission was recently awarded $600,000 in grant funding through the Help America Vote Act of 2020.

This funding will be used to help purchase upgraded voting equipment, enhance the voting registration system, improve campaign finance track and cyber security, and it will allow staff members to reach certification levels under the Certified Elections & Registration Administrator.

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios would like to thank Mona Harrington, acting executive director at the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, and her staff for their assistance throughout the grant process and the local Election Commission for working to secure this funding for the Commonwealth.

“Increasing voter count accuracy, protecting our voters and candidates’ personally identifiable information, and developing professional capacity are priorities for the CEC, and we are pleased to announce that we are continuing to take steps to help improve the overall experience for our voters and candidates alike,” the administration said. (PR)
