Lions Club spruces up old road signs

The Saipan Fil-American Lions Club recently spruced up the club’s many road signs that say, “Keep Saipan Beautiful. Do Not Litter.” The signs are along the road and placed in different villages.

According to the Region 2 chairperson and past president Annamae Adaza, this was an overdue project. Before, most of the signs had only the post and had either been erased already or the writings were not legible anymore.

The new signs are posted on Quartermaster Road near the tank, San Jose area near the traffic light in front of Marianas High School, and in front of the KFC store in Chalan Kanoa, with more to follow.

The road signs were started in the early ’90s, with nearly 50 posted around the island, with the help of the Lions members from Japan.

Mario Mayuga, one of the charter members of the club, hopes that the Lions Club will continue to spruce up even half of those signs, once they have enough funding and can still find those poles.
