This last week of January has been declared Catholic Schools Week, with Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios designating Jan. 26 to Feb. 1 for the occasion in a proclamation singing last Jan. 25 at the Mount Carmel Cathedral.

The two leading Catholic schools in the CNMI are the Mount Carmel School in Susupe and the San Francisco de Borja on Rota. Both schools have lined up a series of activities this week to celebrate the occasion.

Mount Carmel School kicked off Catholic Schools Week last Sunday, Jan. 26, with a Mass. On Monday, the school’s students, faculty, and staff held a beach cleanup, helped organize the Joeten Kiyu Public Library, cleaned the volleyball court, decorated the stage, and planted trees and flowers to beautify the MCS campus.

Tuesday was about appreciating the MCS faculty, staff, and administrators with students giving them appreciation letters and cards, followed by an award ceremony that recognized science teacher Eva Villar as the school’s Teacher of the Year 2020 and Leeani Villagomez as the Support Staff of the Year.

Last Wednesday saw vocational talks, Jeopardy-style Bible games, and Big Brother Big Sister match-ups for poster making on assigned themes.

Today, Jan. 30, the school will have lessons on patriotism, followed by an annual video filming.

Tomorrow, Jan. 31, there will be a roadside waving at 7:45am, a student field day at 8:30am and Family Night celebration that will recognize the Parents of the Year.

On Feb. 1, the school will recognize their alumni with a special event called “Night with the Knights.”
