Eva Villar is named MCS Teacher of the Year

Science teacher Eva Villar was recognized as Mount Carmel School’s Teacher of the Year during a school program last Tuesday that was part of the celebration of Catholic Schools’ Week.
According to Villar, who has been teaching 7th, 8th, and 9th grade science for the past three years at MCS, this was the first year she was nominated and awarded the Teacher of the Year award.
“Actually, getting nominated is already an honor and a blessing, more so being chosen to be Teacher of the Year, so I feel very happy,” she said.
Villar said she was not expecting to win since all the teachers she was up against were also great.
“I was really anxious and nervous. I didn’t expect to win because we are all great teachers and everyone is really doing their best,” she said.
MCS also recognized Leeani Villagomez as its Support Staff of the Year, while the Perfect Attendance awards were given to Zhen Zhu “Pearl” Jin, and Frances San Nicholas.
Villar, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Santo Tomas in the Philippines, said she developed a passion for teaching when she worked as a chemist for a manufacturing company in the Philippines.
During her career as a chemist and a quality assurance manager, she was asked to conduct trainings and learned to love being a mentor to others and to share her knowledge about chemistry.
“I developed a passion for teaching and whenever I see participant learning from me, it gives me that heart to teach more because I want people to learn something,” she said.
Villar said she started her teaching career with MCS back in 2017 after her husband passed away and, since she was already a devoted MCS parent, it was an easy transition for her to share her services with the school.
“When my husband passed away in 2017, I decided to teach. I was an active parent in Mount Carmel School because of my son, so I’ve been helping the school and I knew I wanted give my talent to the MCS family,” she said.
Arousing the curiosity of her students is what gives her the motivation to do more in her teaching career.
“Whenever I see the students…understand the lessons and apply it in their daily lives, it’s enough motivation and is an accomplishment,” she said.
