Rota delegation recognizes 2019 Sinapalo Teacher of the Year

The Rota legislative delegation honored Gloria Curameng Hocog with a resolution last Jan 24, for her selection as 2019 Teacher of the Year for Sinapalo Elementary School.
“Hocog’s dedication to education is not limited to the classroom as she has attended numerous professional development and leadership activities to enrich her teaching abilities for the benefit of her students,” the resolution reads. “[Hocog’s selection] is supported by her passion for educating and preparing her students for their future and her continued dedication to the students, faculty, administration, and parents of Sinapalo Elementary School.”
Originally from the Philippines, Hocog began teaching on Rota in 2008 as a substitute teacher for Sinapalo Elementary School and Rota Junior High School.
She later worked at the Commonwealth Ports Authority for six years. In 2015, she returned to Sinapalo Elementary School as a highly qualified special education teacher.
“With this recognition, we thank Mrs. Hocog for her unwavering dedication and commitment to our students, parents and community of Rota, and we highly encourage her to keep up with her exemplary performance that she has demonstrated at our school and community,” said Sen. Teresita Santos (Ind-Rota).
Present at the resolution presentation were Rota Mayor Efraim M. Atalig, Education Commissioner Dr. Alfred Ada, Sinapalo Elementary School principal Daisy Quitugua, and all the members of the delegation.
Hocog graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from Our Lady of Fatima University in 2001, spent three years pursuing a career in physical therapy in the Philippines, and then moved and found a home on the island of Rota.
