Teenager allegedly assaults student with rock
A teenager allegedly repeatedly hit the head of a fellow male student with a rock and punched him on the face at a school on Rota Tuesday afternoon.
A video clip of the alleged assault has been circulating on social media. Police investigators were able to obtain a copy of the video clip.
Roddy Masga Maratita, 18, a student, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery.
The victim, a 17-year-old student, was brought to the Rota Health Center for treatment and assessment for swelling and an open wound on the head he sustained during the assault.
At a hearing Wednesday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $1,000 cash bail and $9,000 in unsecured bond on Maratita.
According to police detective Chloe B. Hocog in the complaint, a student informed a school resource officer last Tuesday at 1:02pm about an adult student, later identified as Maratita, assaulting a minor with a rock.
A witness told police that Maratita, armed with a rock, walked toward the victim and hit him on the right side of his head. Other students held Maratita to calm him down. Witnesses observed that the victim’s head was already bleeding, but the defendant was still being aggressive at the victim.
Investigation personnel later released Maratita from the school’s custody to his parent.
At 1:48pm on the same day, police officers spotted Maratita aboard his mother’s car. The officers pulled over the vehicle and arrested him.
Hocog said that Maratita later admitted during an interview at the Rota Department of Public Safety to assaulting the minor with a rock and repeatedly punching him in the face
The report did not mention what triggered the assault.
