The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’ Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture, in partnership with Pacific Resources for Education and Learning, is hosting a workshop called “Kids Helping Kids” with special guest, Dr. Lori Philips of PREL on Jan. 30 from 9am to 3pm at the Kanoa Resort Saipan in Susupe.

The workshop teaches a series of strategies that assist teachers in teaching basic observational drawing and story writing to create early childhood readers. Its main goal is to create books that can be translated into local languages for use in island classrooms.

The objective is for teachers to learn how to offer students lessons in beginning drawing, learn how to teach the basics of watercolor painting to illustrate readers, and teachers will review different types of simple early readers.

The workshop is open to all K-12 private and public-school teachers. Interested teachers must register on or before Tuesday, Jan. 28, to reserve their seats. Registration is free and on a first come, first served basis.
