The Marianas Tourism Education Council visited its first middle school this year with a presentation to students at Dandan Middle School on Jan. 9, 2020.

MTEC board member Catherine Perry gave an overview of the Marianas tourism industry and shared examples of how students can get involved in tourism and stay informed to make them better industry leaders in the future. Marianas Visitors Authority community projects specialist Jack Aranda shared about the role of the state tourism office, with emphasis on marketing and promotions conducted in the Marianas major source markets, as well as annual signature events organized by the MVA.

“The Marianas Visitors Authority is pleased to again partner with MTEC this school year to share information and new perspectives with students on our tourism industry,” said MVA managing director Priscilla M. Iakopo. “Thanks to our close working relationship, we have been able to reach thousands of students since we started the presentations several years ago, and we truly believe we are helping to raise a more informed and involved generation of young people when it comes to tourism.”

Following the presentations, students were quizzed and received branded giveaways.

MTEC’s Education Outreach program targets the 5th, 8th, and 10thgraders each year on Saipan, Tinian and Rota in partnership with the MVA. The presentations are also sponsored by the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, Kanoa Resort Saipan, Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Ernst & Young, Pacific Islands Club Saipan, and T Galleria.

MTEC and the Marianas Visitors Authority will host the MY WAVE Club Tourism Summit on Jan. 23, 2020, for an estimated 300-400 school MY WAVE Club students at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan.
