Triathlon Association of the CNMI will have its 5th Aquathlon & 10KM Run this coming Sunday, Jan. 26, starting at the Kilili Pavilion in Oleai.
TRAC secretary general Ricky Castro said the Aquathlon will have splits of a 5-kilometer run, 1-km swim, and another 5-km run. Start time is 6am.
The turnaround point for the 5K run is across Monika’s Gallery, while the 1K swim will be held in the waters off Kilili Beach.
As an added event, a 10-kilomter run will be held coinciding with the Aquathlon with the Gov. Froilan Tenorio Saipan Beach Pathway as the run course. The traffic light across Bank of Guam in Garapan is the turnaround point for the run.
Castro is inviting the running and swimming community to take part in this weekend’s 5th Aquathlon & 10KM Run.
“I am inviting the community especially those preparing for marathon and Tagaman triathlon this March to join this event on Sunday, registration online is free by visiting our website at triathloncnmi.org event page,” he said.
The 5th Aquathlon & 10KM Run is sponsored by Marianas Visitors Authority and Kanoa Resort. Last year, the 4th Aquathlon & 10KM Run attracted around 70 participants.
Castro said the 5th Aquathlon & 10KM Run is the second leg of their series leading up to the 2020 Tagaman Triathlon. The first was their Duathlon event held last Dec. 21 in Paupau Beach. The last of the series will be the Sprint Triathlon set for Feb. 29 that would involve a 750m swim, 20-km bike, and 5km run.
Last year, Isaiah Aleksenko topped the Aquathlon with a time of 44:28.7, topping a field of 25. Emily Northrop was the first among 10 women competitors, crossing the finish line in 46:05. In the mixed relay, J&K was the lone team that entered and came in with a time of 55:08.7.
In the 10K run, Kaylee Heath made short work of the course with a time of 41.02.8, besting 40 other runners. The first male to complete the race was Kosuke Sato (41:58.8).
