Full support to new leadership

Local and regional sports associations and a CNMI athlete have extended their support to the new NMSA board.

“PGC is very pleased to hear that Mr. Jerry Tan is the new president of NMSA. We have known Jerry for many years and are confident that we will work successfully with him to deliver a great Mini Games in 2021,” Pacific Games Council chief executive officer Andrew Minogue said.

CNMI athlete Bobby Cruz, who represented the Commonwealth in regional tournaments in outrigger canoe and tennis, is elated with the election of Tan.

“Jerry Tan is an exceptional leader so I am excited to learn that he will be leading NMSA now. I have worked with him in different projects in the past and his passion and commitment to getting things done is admirable. He has a heart for our people’s health and wellness through sports and his concern for the CNMI in general makes him a perfect fit to lead an organization such as NMSA,” Cruz said.

Paddling head Justin Andrew echoed Cruz’s sentiments and is pleased with the composition of the new board.

“The new board is made up of a good cross section of our community. We have active athletes, seasoned community volunteer workers, a very successful businessman, and a former politician who understands the intricacies of how a government operates,” said Andrew, who is on serving on the NMSA board for the second time.

“With Mr. Jerry Tan at the helm, he brings a treasure trove of very valuable business practice lessons and know-how and solid work ethics that I believe will really help NMSA chart a new course that will benefit our community as well as our athletes,” the former NMSA vice president said.

The athletics family has also expressed its support to the new NMSA board and at the same time acknowledged the work of its predecessor headed by CNMI Sports Hall of Famer Michael White.

“The NMA extends its sincerest appreciation and gratitude to the previous board members of NMSA for their countless contribution and personal sacrifices to all our sports federations. It was not easy. Thank you for your volunteerism,” the NMA said in a press statement.

“The NMA conveys its warm regards and much success to the newly elected NMSA board of directors and applauds them for taking up the challenges facing our sports family, here and abroad. We are inspired and eager to work with this new leadership.” (PR)
