Girl Scouts to sell cookies

The Northern Mariana Island Girls Scouts will be selling Girl Scout cookies next month, according to NMI Girl Scout registrar Jaki Fujihira.

It was decided at a Girls Scouts meeting last Jan. 11 at the Fiesta Resort & Spa in Garapan to go ahead with the cookie sale—a fundraising event. Fujihira said this will be the first time ever that the NMI Girl Scout will be selling Girl Scout cookies. “[We] are excited for the growth and continuation in the years to come,” Fujihira said.

It was also decided at the meeting that the scouts who joined only last October 2019 will also be involved in selling Girl Scout cookies this year.

The NMI Girl Scouts’ target this year is to get a “census based on experience and sales to better the many more years of Girl Scout cookies to come,” according to Fujihira.

“We’d like to ask the community for their continued support to help this Girl Scouts project be successful. The purpose of the cookie program is the help girls learn entrepreneurship and leadership skills. What better way to show continued support than by volunteering for our program or becoming a troop leader to help our girls,” she added.

The cookie sale will also help fund events for the NMI Girl Scout to achieve badges and to also organize events for those badges.

The NMI Girl Scout will be advertising more details of their cookie booths to the community on social media, radio, and newspaper.

“We’ve had a tremendous amount of support from our community already with events to help the girls earn badges and patches. And we are more than grateful. To the community,” said Fujihira.
