2020 Red Cross Walkathon Set for April 25

The American Red Cross-NMI Chapter’s 2020 Walkathon will take place on April 25, a Saturday. The event will include a 10K walk and lots of fun and games for the entire family. Registration for NMC’s Adult Basic Education Program begins today

The Northern Marianas College’s Adult Basic Education or ABE program, which focuses on meeting the educational needs of adult learners, has announced the following dates for Session 3:
Jan. 13-17, 2020
CASAS Placement Testing: 1pm (by appointment only), Bldg. M-2
Registration: 10am-5pm, Bldg. M
Jan. 27, 2020: First day of instruction
Feb. 24-27, 2020: Student evaluation of instructor & class
March 9, 2020: Last day of instruction (Post-testing for those with 40-plus hours of instruction)
New students and those who have been out of the ABE program for more than a year must make an appointment at the Adult Basic Education Office located in Building M to take the CASAS Assessment Test. New phone numbers for Guam National Guard

In order to better align our network with that of our sister services on island, throughout the nation and around the world, the Guam National Guard will be changing its current phone system to fall under the Defense Information Systems Agency. The implementation of the new system and phone numbers will take effect today, Jan.13, 2020.
During the initial onset of this implementation, which will take place from Jan. 13 to 17, the current phone numbers will automatically forward to the new numbers. However, once full implementation is complete, the old numbers will drop off.

Tumon Bay Music Festival starts Feb. 27

TUMON BAY, Guam—The Tumon Bay Music Festival 2020, brought to you by the Guam Territorial Band Society, is celebrating 16th year of promoting musical arts in the Marianas. It is the region’s largest music festival featuring musicians from across Guam, Rota, Saipan, and Japan.
Come and enjoy the music at numerous venues across Guam beginning Feb. 27 and ending with the finale concert on March 7 featuring the Concordia Mass Choir, festival honor bands, and the International Wind Orchestra. Go to tbmfguam.org for more information. (PR)

Saturday writing workshops

The Marianas Writers Movement will have a series of Saturday workshops. Each workshop will be two hours, beginning at 1:30pm in the VTC Room of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library. The workshops, “Beyond the First Draft,” will focus on the editing process. These workshops are open to all over age 13, and are free.
Each workshop is different in content. Here is the tentative schedule for topics:
Jan. 18 Workshop 1: Intro to editing
Jan. 25 Workshop 2: How to be a beta reader
Feb. 1 Workshop 3: Writing a critique/editorial report
Feb. 8 Workshop 4: Line editing thoughts
Feb. 15 Workshop 5: Pitching your novel

Kagman schools’ PTSA meeting tomorrow

The Kagman Unified Schools will be having a Parents Teachers Students Association meeting tomorrow, Jan. 14, 2020, at 5:30pm in the Chacha Ocean View Middle School cafeteria. We are encouraging all parents, and guardians to attend this meeting. Child care will be provided.
