Man gets 6-month sentence for tresspass
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho has imposed the maximum sentence of six months in prison on Vincent K. Antonius, a 21-year-old man who broke into one of the rooms of Century Hotel in Garapan and was injured after he jumped from the second floor to the rooftop of a storage room.
At a hearing on Wednesday, Antonius pleaded guilty to two counts of disturbing the peace as part of a plea deal.
Camacho sentenced Antonius to six months in prison for each count, to be served day for day without the possibility of parole.
The sentences for the two counts shall run concurrently. This means that Antonius’ total actual prison term is six months. He was given credit for time served.
The remaining charges were dismissed as part of the plea deal that the defendant signed with the government.
Assistant attorney general Chemere McField represented the government. Assistant public defender Matthew Meyer served as counsel for the defendant.
According to the plea deal, Antonius committed criminal trespass at the Century Hotel on July 12, 2013, when he entered one of the hotel’s rooms, where two guests were sleeping. His actions disturbed the peace of the two guests.
According to police, Antonius entered the hotel room through the balcony’s sliding door and was attempting to enter another room when a guest saw him and shouted.
Antonius fled by jumping from the room’s balcony into the roof of the adjacent storage room, landing on his back. He was injured and could not get up.
When a police officer responded to the scene, Antonius was still on top of the storage room. Medics transported him to the hospital, but was later released.
At the Department of Corrections where he was subsequently detained, the defendant told a police officer that he was drunk and does not remember what happened.
