The Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’ Commonwealth Respite Service Program will be having their open house today, Jan. 8, from 10am to 3pm at CRSP office, building #1354 on Mednilla Avenue, Capitol Hill.

The open house will be introducing the CRSP that will focus on catering to primary caregivers and the community. The resource center is meant to be a comfortable space for caregivers who register with the program.

The center will be providing registered CRSP caregivers access to the internet, books with various genres, relaxing activities, and classes. The center will also provide caregivers a short-term relief from caregiving for self-care or to take a much needed rest with peace of mind, while a professional takes their place to cater to their loved one.

Respite service programs have been proven to reduce abuse, especially elder abuse, and improve the overall care of children with disabilities and senior citizens who are being cared for full-time at home. Respite care services also improve the caretaker’s health. (Justine Nauta)
