Office on Aging wants congregants to be more active

Office on Aging director Walter Manglona encourages all senior citizens who are 60 years of age or older to participate in their daily programs and activities so they can be active and maintain their good health.

Activities at are held Monday-Friday from 7:30am to 2pm at the Man Amko’ Center in Matsue Street, China Town.

The Office on Aging offers daily services such as supportive services, nutrition services, transportation services, and Senior Community Service Employment Program.

The programs that are offered to help senior citizens relax are music sessions, arts and crafts, morning stretches, movie productions, talent shows, Fun Fridays, spirit week, their annual event Man’Amko’ King and Queen Fundraiser, and more.

Daily lunch meals are also provided to registered senior citizens who are in the facility or home-bound.

For senior citizens who still want to continue to work, the Office on Aging offers a program called the Senior Community Service Employment Program. It is a training program for senior citizens who are 55 years of age or older needing additional skills in order to join the workforce.

To become an active congregate or homebound client, you must be 60 years of age and older, and for the SCSEP program and discount card program, you must be 55 years of age and older.

The Office on Aging’s mission is to develop, coordinate, and deliver support services to senior citizens with or without disabilities. They plan to maximize their client’s independence, well-being, and health. The Office on Aging intends to provide opportunities for senior citizens to play an active role in the community and to have a system designed to assist senior citizens to “live their lives with meaning and dignity.”
