The Northern Marianas Trades Institute board of trustees met for the first time last Monday with their first official order of business being the renaming of the trades institution to a technical institution.

According to NMTI chief executive officer Agnes McPhetres, the board of trustees officially adopted the resolution that changes the Northern Marianas Trades Institute to the Northern Marianas Technical Institute.

“The resolutions adopted today was to call the formally Northern Marianas Trades Institute, [Northern Marianas] Technical Institute, now it’s official,” she said.

Another resolution adopted yesterday was the resolution to establish a new bank account under the board of trustees.

“The other resolution was to establish a new account so that when we receive the grants, it would go to the new board of trustees accounts. It was a unanimous vote,” she said.

In a previous article on the Saipan Tribune, the NMTI board of directors agreed unanimously last Friday to move forward with the motion to dissolve the board of directors to make room for the board of trustees pursuant to the law that recognized NMTI as a government institution.

Two members of the outgoing board will transition into the board of trustees, Richard P. Kautz Jr. and Mario Valentino. The outgoing board members who will not make the transition into the board of trustees are John Gonzales, Annie G. Hayes, and Joseph Torres.

Also part of the new board of trustees are Irene Holl, Carmelita Faisao, and Ray Pangelinan. Two members have yet to be confirmed.
