Saipan Vegas barged into the win column in the Open Division of the United Filipino Organization IT&E 2019 Basketball League after outgunning Team Lakay, 98-81, last Thursday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.

Five players scored in twin digits for Saipan Vegas for its first victory in three games, while Team Lakay dropped to a 1-3 record.

Leo Galarse and Celio Bisana teamed up in handing Saipan Vegas a 17-point winning margin after making 27 and 26 points, respectively. They anchored Saipan Vegas’ offense to give their team the lead right off the gate.

Bisana sizzled for 10 points in the first period to lift Saipan Vegas to a 20-13 advantage. Galarse contributed 8 markers, 6 of them came from the 3-point area. The duo then combined for 10 points in the second quarter, helping Saipan Vegas keep the lead at the break, 39-36. Team Lakay moved within three at the end of the first half, as Ron Romo and John Williams stepped up in the second quarter with the latter drilling 9 points after being held to one field goal in the opening frame and the former contributing 6.

However, after a strong showing in the second canto, Williams was limited to 3 points in the third and Romo went scoreless, allowing Saipan Vegas to pull away. Galarse scored 9 points in the penultimate quarter, while Bisana added 8, lifting Saipan Vegas to a 69-50 advantage.

Saipan Vegas went on to keep the wide lead with J.R. Del Castillo putting the finishing touches on the team’s victory. Del Castillo tallied 13 points, the same output Arnold Natividad registered, while Rommel Usi also had twin digits with his 10 markers.
