This new year, the Commonwealth Office of Transit Authority will be extending its services. Starting today, Saipan residents can avail of COTA’s demand response shared ride and fixed route services even on Sundays and on all CNMI legal holidays.

Demand response is a “call-a-ride service,” a reservation-based, curb-to-curb, and door-to-door service for anyone and anywhere on the island, while the fixed route service is a bus system with a fixed route from the Northern Marianas College to Paseo de Marianas, and back.

“Expanding our services to accommodate Sundays and CNMI legal holidays validates the need for public transportation in our community,” said special assistant for Public Transportation Alfreda P. Camacho.

COTA recorded a total of 7,668 trips last year and it has noted an increase in demand for COTA’s services over the last month.

Camacho expressed appreciation to all of COTA’s clients and to the whole community for trusting the transit authority to get them to their places of employment, doctor’s appointments, among others.

COTA also assures the public that they will continue to do their best to serve each and every single person who calls the CNMI home.

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres said that the expansion on the days of service will assist residents as they get around the island.

“Public transportation is a critical need for our community, and we are making steady progress in expanding service on Saipan and eventually on Tinian and Rota,” Torres added.

Reservations and hours of operations for Sundays and holidays will be from 6:30am to 4pm.

To make reservations, call COTA’s One-Call/One-Click Transportation Information Resource Center at (670) 664-2690 at least two business days before the desired ride.
