As expected, Agape Christian School runners led the finishers list in last Saturday’s Northern Marianas Athletics Annual Christmas Island Relay.
Agape Team A was the overall No.1 finisher in the 13.7-mile race from Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio to the Last Command Post in Marpi after timing in at 1:25:27. Kobe Yang And Arthur Liang, who were part of the Agape squad that topped last year’s event after recording 1:23:35, this time joined forces with Tony Zhang, Ray Qi, and Ivan Li in besting 15 other teams.
Agape Team A won the open division, downing Jack & Company ( (1:31:50) and Agape Team B (1:33:02). Ketson “Jack” Kabiriel led Jack & Company and teamed up with Keith Longuski, Traven Quitugua, Gabe Sappa, and Oldie Roligat, while Agape Team B members were Oliver Li, Hansen Li, Simon Shen, Allen Luc, and Emma Pang.
Agape also prevailed in the youth division with Agape Team C reaching the finish line in 1:34:39, nearly 13 minutes ahead of TanHoldings Football Club (1:47:16). Peter Shen, Eason Tang, Caleb Dai, Alex Liang, and Eunice Yu were the members of Agape Team C, while Kaithlyn Chavez, Taka Borja, Kohtaro Goto, Akira Kadokura, and R.J. Narvaez ran for TanHoldings FC.
Agape runners ruled NMA’s season-ending event for the fifth straight time and coach and Agape principal Kok Pang attributed the Torchbearers’ consistent strong showing in various races on island to their regular practices.
“Our students run five times a week after school hours and they are also involved in various sports, so they are physical fit and highly competitive,” Pang said.
