A 35-year-old man was arrested last week for allegedly asking money from a woman and her boyfriend, then threatening them with a knife outside a store in Chalan Piao.

John Frederick T. Ngeskebei was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace. At a hearing last Friday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $10,000 cash bail on him and set the preliminary hearing for today, Friday, at 10am.

According to police detective Shannon Dela Cruz in her report, the Department of Public Safety received a call from a woman last Nov. 6 at 10:26pm that a man, later identified as Ngeskebei, threatened her with a sharp object outside the Chalan Piao Supermarket.

Dela Cruz said that, based on her interview with the caller and her boyfriend two days later, the woman had parked her car in front of Chalao Piao Supermarket last Nov. 6 at night to buy some items. The woman saw Ngeskebei standing in front of the store and he appeared to be shouting at someone at the corner of the establishment. The woman became scared so she and her boyfriend, who was on the passenger seat, decided to leave and put the car on reverse. Ngeskebei, however, walked over to her side of the window, looked inside, and asked her for money. When her boyfriend asked Ngeskebei what he wanted, he got angry and pulled out a knife from his pouch and pointed it at the victims. The woman rolled up the window and locked the car.

The boyfriend got out from the car, confronted the suspect, and told him to throw away the knife. The woman, who was crying in fear, ran into the store, where she called 911 for police’s help.
