All six Lions Club that make up the Lions Clubs International District 204, Region 2 came together last Dec. 16 as sponsors of the second day of the nine-day Simbang Gabi (Dawn Mass) at Mt. Carmel Cathedral, which marks the advent of the Christmas season.
The Lions sponsored the second night of the Simbang Gabi, which is an annual activity organized by the Saipan Simbang Gabi Group, which has nine coordinators.
“The second day was assigned to the Lions. The role of the coordinators is to look for sponsors who will donate cash and all collections will be used for Saipan Simbang Gabi Group projects,” said Region 2 chair Annamae Adaza.
Adaza said that all Lions Clubs are autonomous but can work together on certain projects.
The Lions Clubs’ donations in the previous year were used to aid schools in the Philippines and those who were affected by Super Typhoon Yutu. With this year’s funding, they hope to rebuild Mt. Carmel’s storage area and to also help those who were affected by a recent earthquake in the Philippines.
The LCI District 204, Region 2 is composed of six clubs, with more than 30 members per club. The six Lions Clubs are Saipan Fil-American Lions Club, Saipan Unity Lions Club, Saipan Marianas Lions Club, Saipan Alliance Lions Club, Saipan Natibu Lions Club, and Saipan Centennial Lions Club.
