Eats Easy and Los Viejos earned contrasting wins in the pair of opening matches in the 8×8 Masters League 2019 at the NMI Soccer Training Center in Koblerville.
Los Viejos eked out a 5-4 triumph over Matansa last Dec. 15, while Eats Easy outclassed Paire, 9-4.
A 4-1 lead in the first half allowed Eats Easy to dominate Paire. Martin Jambor led Eats Easy’s strong start after delivering three goals in the opening half. He made it to the board right in the first minute of the game and completed the early hat trick when he found the back of the net in the 16th and 26th minute. Chong Koo Gil tallied the other goal for Eats Easy in the first half with his shot in the 33rd, while Paire’s lone goal was courtesy of Ajani Burrell in the 23rd minute.
In the second half, Jambor was held to one goal (59th minute), but Kosuke Sato was there to steady the ship for Eats Easy, as the former recorded three goals. Jershwin Angeles added one goal in the second half for Eats Easy’s debut win, while Burrell also had one goal in the final frame, and Paire’s two other goals came from Trey Dunn and Whit Altizer.
In the other game in the Masters League, Peter Loken gave Los Viejos the insurance in the 57th minute, while Richard Sikkel also scored in the second half (47th) to help their team withstand Matansa’s comeback bid.
Matansa, which faced a 1-3 deficit at the break, tried to mount a comeback behind a pair of goals from Dhiraj Chhetri and one from Amzad Khan, but Los Viejos hung on for the close win. Chhetri finished with a hat trick on a losing effort for Matansa.
Mike Hall delivered twin goals for Los Viejos, making both of them in the first half (24th and 29th minute) to put their squad on top, while Dan Wollak also lit up the board in the opening half (19th minute)
Los Viejos was gunning for win No. 2 yesterday, as it faced Paire, while Matansa dueled Eats Easy in the other match last weekend.
