Pacific Marine downs PPG Paint

Pacific Marine rallied in the fourth quarter to top PPG Paint, 59-44, in the Masters Division game in the United Filipino Organization IT&E 2019 Basketball League last Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.
After playing catch up in the majority of the game, Pacific Marine completed the comeback in the fourth period as it scored 24 points—the squad’s best output in a quarter—to end up with a double-digit winning margin.
Marino Atinen and John Flores teamed up in Pacific Marine’s surge after scoring 7 points each in the fourth frame, while three of their teammates also made baskets in the final canto to steal the win from PPG Paint.
PPG Paint, which went up by as many as 8 points in the first half and clung to a 36-35 lead after three quarters, was held to three field goals and 8 markers in the fourth-quarter collapse. Only Joseph Galulu posted more than 2 markers for PPG Paint with his one field goal and two free throws, while Orly Ebuen and Nelson Samson registered the two other baskets for the losing team in the final canto.
PPG Paint, before falling apart in the fourth period, led by 8 at the end of the first, 18-10, behind the combined 10 points of Jess Montoya and Robert Sanciangco. The squad then kept the upper hand in the first half, 23-20, despite making only 5 points in the second quarter.
Then in the third period, PPG Paint’s lead was brought down to a hair when Atinen made up for his scoreless performance in the second period after firing 8 markers in the penultimate frame. Atinen went on to continue having a better offensive showing in the second half, as he partnered with Flores in bringing Pacific Marine back into the game and completing the come-from-behind win.
Atinen finished with a game-high 17 points, while Flores also had double figures after logging 11 points. No PPG Paint players scored in twin digits with Galulu making only 9 markers.
