Saipan Morning Run on Fridays

Saipan Morning Run is held every Friday at 8am beginning and ending at Grandvrio Resort Saipan in Garapan. This free 7.6K event is organized by Marianas Visitors Authority and Pacific Development Inc. and is open to visitors and residents. CNMI Weightlifting sets meeting

CNMI Weightlifting is inviting all persons interested in the sport of weightlifting to a meeting on Saturday, Jan. 4, 2020, starting at 1pm, at the NMPASI conference room in Gualo Rai.
Any individual interested in competing in upcoming competitions must personally come to this meeting.
The agenda will include the 2020 Oceania & Commonwealth Championships in Nauru on April 21-25, 2020; the CNMI Weightlifting Competition on Feb. 1, 2020; and the Anti-Doping Administration & Management System.
In addition to discussing upcoming weightlifting competitions and requirements, issues of training facility and equipment, fundraising, and other issues facing the sport of weightlifting in the Northern Mariana Islands will be addressed.

SSHS half-day this Friday

Saipan Southern High School will have a half-day session this Friday, Dec. 20, 2019. Students will be dismissed at 12:30pm. Christmas break for SSHS will be from Dec. 23, 2019, to Jan. 3, 2019. Classes will resume on Monday, Jan. 6, 2020.  (PR)

DMS releases mid-progress reports

Dandan Middle School will distribute the second quarter mid-progress reports to parents and guardians today, Dec. 19, from 4pm to 6pm. Proceed to your child’s homeroom. In addition, sign up for an appointment with the content teachers if you have questions on your child’s progress report.
The school’s Parents Teachers Students Association is hosting the Totot Bash on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, from 5pm to 9pm. Currently, students, teachers, and parents are selling raffle tickets for the annual bash. We are inviting members of the community for a Family Fun Night with games, booths, and food for all to enjoy! (PR)

UOG to celebrate ROTC alumni

All alumni of the University of Guam’s Reserve Officers Training Corps program, as well as their guests and the public, are invited to an alumni dinner event this Friday in support of the Military Science Department at the university. The event will begin promptly at 7pm in the UOG Calvo Field House. Attendees are asked to make a donation of $50 per attendee over the age of 18.
The event aims to connect current ROTC cadets with former cadets who have had fulfilling careers in the U.S. Army in order to inspire pride in the cadets for what their future holds as commissioned officers. 
The donation will cover the dinner with the remainder going to the ROTC Military Science Fund within the University of Guam Endowment Foundation to support the enrichment of the ROTC cadet experience. Donations may be made at https://give.uog.edu/donate/rotc-military-science-fund/.
Those interested in attending should RSVP by this Thursday to Tessy Paulino at 735-2543. Attire for the event is island casual or OCPs for current cadets and cadre. (PR)

Military to conduct trainings 

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. Air Force will conduct training at the island of Farallon de Medinilla today, Dec. 19, from 10am to 10 am. Training will be conducted within a 12-nautical mile radius of Farallon de Medinilla. For the duration of the exercise the public, fishermen, and marine tour operators are advised to remain clear of this area and monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.
Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 is conducting training at the Dandan training site in Inarajan until today, Dec. 19, from 11am to 11:55am. These types of trainings are designed to enhance the readiness of military personnel. Residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity associated with the training. The public should be advised that routine helicopter training often accompanied with the use of blanks can occur during these trainings. (PR)
