CHCC begins move toward new system of recording vital records
The Commonwealth Health Care Corp. will soon start the process of implementing a new system for recording vital records information by moving away from paper records and having the information recorded digitally.
This project is tentatively expected to be completed in 2020.
The Electronic Vital Registration System will be implemented at the Commonwealth Health Center through Axiell ALM Inc., a software vendor and consultant that specializes in software for registries and vital records and has implemented software solutions and vital records registries throughout the Pacific, Australasia, Caribbean, Canada, and the United States.
This shift to digital records-keeping will enable CHCC to keep up with efforts to modernize health information technologies. Over the next several months, Axiell will work with CHCC in creating a system for the electronic administration of vital statistics, including birth, death, and fetal death registries in the CNMI.
Decreasing reliance on paper forms will allow the CNMI to comply with all federally regulated standards under the National Center for Health Statistics, and improve the quality of data collection within CHCC’s jurisdiction.
When the new EVRS is fully in place, it will give CHCC the ability to transmit birth and death data to the NCHS, greatly improved reporting timeliness and quality of vital events information collected, increased security fraud and protection, allow the CNMI to participate in the exchange of information through the Electronic Verification of Vital Events with state and federal agencies, an increased ability to interface with other CHCC data systems, and continual compliance with NCHS and the National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems programs and requirements.
