Guam relief set to arrive
Tons of humanitarian and relief goods are set to arrive today, Dec. 9, 2019, at the Commonwealth Ports Authority through the continued partnership of the Office of Guam Republican minority leader Sen. Wil Castro and the office of Gov. Ralph DLG Torres.
This is the third time that Castro led a delivery of essential goods to the Commonwealth.
“Because of Super Typhoon Yutu, Sen. Castro and I understand that there is still a way to go for many of our residents to achieve a sense of normalcy. These containers of relief supplies from Guam will help our people continue the road to recovery. Together, as one Marianas, we will recover stronger than any typhoon,” said Torres.
First lady Diann Torres is also immensely grateful. “We sincerely thank our brothers and sisters from Guam for their charity and humanitarianism. Many in our community will make good use of these items.”
Today’s shipment, coordinated through the One Marianas Relief Initiative, consists of almost 600 mini refrigerators and more than 40 sofa beds.
The first delivery was made on Tinian just weeks after Super Typhoon Yutu ripped through the Commonwealth. Private fishing boats from Guam carried the donated items, which consisted of portable gas stoves, hammers, nails, blankets, sanitary and hygienic supplies, and canned goods.
The second delivery was via a shipping container of computer screens and pillows and blankets for the Commonwealth Health Center.
“Thanks to our corporate partners, we were able to secure and deliver hundreds of items this third time around,” said Castro. “We will continue to intensify the relationship that we have built over the years with the CNMI through efforts like this and with the Marianas Working Group.”
