FROM 3R, IT’S NOW 5R
Miss Earth takes up 5R cause
Miss Earth Northern Marianas Leisha Deleon Guerrero has taken up the 5R Campaign, which intends to push the idea of “Reduce. Reuse. Refuse. Respect. Rethink.” as part of her advocacy for environmental awareness and sustainability.
The campaign will last until Dec. 8, Sunday.
“As Miss Earth NMI, it as my responsibility to lead our community and the youth to be part of this beneficial change within our islands,” Deleon Guerrero said.
The 5R campaign is a call for members of the community to reduce the amount of waste they generate, to reuse materials, to refuse excessive packaging, to respect the environment, and to rethink lifestyle choices.
“The Miss Earth NMI pageant and mission is one of the most relevant to date, considering we are in a global climate crisis. Miss Earth is also known for our motto ‘Beauties for a Cause’ and that’s exactly what being Miss Earth NMI is all about,” Deleon Guerrero added.
Each day of this week, Deleon Guerrero will be hosting events and activities to promote each of the 5R. This includes working with companies that promote environmental awareness, visiting San Vicente Elementary School and Hopwood Junior High School, and a beach cleanup on Tinian.
The young beauty queen aims to get the Saipan and Tinian communities, the youth, and the public involved by educating them on issues, steps, and ideas that would contribute to a more sustainable CNMI.
“Take the time to educate yourselves on the importance of taking care of our islands, and be a part of the global efforts for sustainability,” Deleon Guerrero said. “Try implementing the 5Rs in your everyday life, because little efforts multiplied by thousands can make a bigger difference.”
