Thank you, Kilili!
We, at the Humane Society Legislative Fund, applaud Rep. Gregorio Kilili C. Sablan (Ind-MP) for his continued support and leadership on animal welfare issues. By introducing the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act, H.R. 737, he has identified the need to stop the barbaric practice of shark-finning. This bill would make it illegal to possess, buy, or sell shark fins or any product containing shark fins. Rep. Sablan led the debate explaining how shark-fining dramatically impacts tourism and how the bill is zero cost to taxpayers. Through his valiant efforts, H.R. 737 historically passed the House floor last week with the support of over two-thirds of the House and is now headed to the Senate. Not only has the representative supported the protection of sharks but has also supported legislation that will end the inhumane slaughter of horses as well as make animal cruelty a federal crime. We applaud Rep. Sablan for his continued leadership on protecting animals and look forward to Congress passing more animal protection bills.
