Balas routed the Niners, 22-7, to notch its first win in the Natibu Sports Association 2nd Annual All Girls Fast-pitch League last Saturday at the Capitol Hill Ballfield.

Balas, which dropped its opener (against Patriot Angels, 15-14) battled back from the season debut loss after scoring in all five innings of their game against the Niners

Leadoff batter Amy Cabrera put Balas on the board right in the first inning and the team got six more runs, courtesy of Kiki Norita, Angel Deleon Guerrero, Caitlyn King, Ashlie Aguon, Chayane Sablan, and Maria Igitol, to open a 7-0 lead after one complete.

The Niners, after a run-less first inning, tried to catch up at the bottom of the second and had some success, as Anne Magofna, Roselyn Castro, Selena Taitano, and Crystal Borja reached to bring down Balas’ lead to 4, 8-4.

Balas was held to one run (from Norita) in the second inning, but was back on target in the third inning, drilling seven more. Cabrera, Tamisha Sablan, Norita, Tydingco, Deleon Guerrero, King, and Aguon scored for Balas for their double-digit lead, 15-4.

The Niners failed to fight back in the last three innings, as they did not make it to the board anew in the third and fifth and were limited to three runs in the fourth, while Balas combined for seven in the last two frames.

With the loss, the Niners are 0-2, as they also absorbed a beating from the Patriot Angels (23-4) last Nov. 16.
