The last Saipan write-in for National Novel Writing Month 2019 will be on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, from 10am to 3pm. (PR)

Holiday closures at AMP

The American Memorial Park Visitor Center will be closed on the following dates:
Nov. 26, 2019 (11am – 1pm)
Nov. 28, 2019, Thanksgiving Day
Dec. 25, 2019, Christmas Day
Jan. 1, 2020, New Year’s Day
The rest of the park will remain open to the public. 
With the exception of the holidays, the Visitor Center is open every day from 9am to 4pm.

Military trainings set

ASAN, Guam—The U.S. military will conduct training at Farallon de Medinilla from 10am to 2pm and 3pm to 4:30pm on Nov. 27 and 29. 
Training will be conducted within a 12-nautical mile radius of Farallon de Medinilla. For the duration of the exercise the general public, fishermen, and marine tour operators are advised to remain clear of these areas and monitor the U.S. Coast Guard broadcast notice to mariners for advisories.
The Navy will also conduct training at Warning Area 517 from 7am to 5pm on Nov. 26 and from 7am to noon on Nov. 27
Santa Rosa Reef and Galvez Banks remain open. For the duration of the exercise, it is recommended the public, fishermen, and marine tour operators remain clear of the following coordinates: 13° 10″N/144° 30″E, 13°10″N/144° 42″E, 12° 50″N/144° 45″E, 11° 00″N/144° 45″E, 11° 00″N/143° 00″E, 11° 45″N/143° 00″E, and 12° 50″N/144° 30″E.
The Navy will also conduct training at Radio Barrigada from 11am to 5pm on Nov. 27. 
The public should be advised that training will be accompanied by the use of blanks and residents in surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they see or hear increased activity associated with the training. 
The Navy will conduct training at the Dandan-Malojloj training site in Inarajan from 11am to 11:55pm on Nov. 25-26. (PR)

CHamoru commission meeting set

The Kumisión i Fino’ CHamoru yan i Fina’nå’guen i Historia yan i Lina’la’ i Taotao Tåno’ (Commission on CHamoru Language and the Teaching of the History and Culture of the Indigenous People of Guam) will hold its first December monthly meeting on Dec. 5, 2019, Thursday from 12:30pm to 3pm at the Guam Museum conference room, Hågatña. PH consulate to visit Saipan in Dec.

The Philippine Consulate General in Guam, in coordination with the office of Philippine Honorary Consul to the CNMI Glicerio “Eli” Arago, will be conducting a consular outreach mission on Saipan on Dec. 3-5, 8am to 4pm, at the Sun Palace Hotel in Susupe.
Applications for ePassports will be processed during the three-day consular mission.
All ePassport applicants should check the list of schedules available on the Philippine Consulate General’s Facebook page (facebook.com/PHinAgana/). Biometrics and personal data capturing for ePassport applications will be according to the attended schedule. Those who are on the list of ePassport applicants must show up at the venue on the date and time indicated in the schedule in proper attire (i.e. with collar and sleeves). Personal appearance is required for all ePassport applicants.
For consular services, including passport renewal, that require civil registration documents such as birth certificate and marriage certificate, documents from the Philippine Statistics Authority or from the former National Statistics Office will be accepted.

Wanted: Volunteer kettle ringers

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers as bell ringers from Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving, up until Dec. 24, Christmas Eve. The bell ringers would do two-hour shifts each. The Red Kettle campaign is the Salvation Army’s fundraiser.
The Salvation Army will also have a delivery of Thanksgiving meals to tent dwellers, low income families, and the homeless on Thanksgiving Day.
It is also calling on the community to support their annual toy drive, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Saipan and Toys for Tots.
