2 core PSS staff resign
Two core staff of the Public School System are resigning.
PSS legal counsel Ryan Meyerhoff and PSS Facilities Development and Management director Rachel Fusco have both tendered their resignations.
Meyerhoff submitted his resignation letter to the CNMI Board of Education and to the office of then-Education commissioner Glenn Muña last Sept. 27; his final day will be on Dec. 6. Meyerhoff cited personal matters as his reason for resigning.
“I’m heading back to California on Dec. 7. My contract was nearing an end and I’m closing in on four years in the CNMI. My time with PSS has been enjoyable and rewarding, but four years is enough time for me to be so far removed from family and friends in California,” Meyerhoff told Saipan Tribune in an email.
Meyerhoff and Tiberius Mocanu serve as the legal counsel for BOE and PSS/COE, but Meyerhoff focused, generally, on PSS while Mocanu focused on BOE matters. Meyerhoff was assigned with the Commonwealth Law Revision Commission from April 2016 to 2018 and with PSS since April 2018.
Saipan Tribune learned from a source that Fusco resigned last Nov. 7, and her last day will be on Jan. 10, 2020. The source said she also cited personal reasons for leaving.
Fusco and other PSS officials worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in assessing school damage after Super Typhoon Yutu hit Saipan and Tinian in October 2018. Fusco oversaw the construction of the temporary campus for Hopwood Middle School at nearby Koblerville Elementary School.
Meyerhoff and Fusco’s resignations serve as the third and fourth key resignations since September, the first being then-PSS Finance and Budget director Christopher Ching and the second being previous Education commissioner Glenn Muña.
Ching resigned from PSS just days before Muña turned in his resignation letter to the BOE. Both cited personal reasons for leaving PSS.
