Fingers crossed for January return to KagES

While repair work for Kagman Elementary School is still on hold, school principal Dr. Ignacia Demapan is hoping that classes will return to full sessions at the main campus this January.
Issues with KagES’ electrical system has forced the school to relocate to Chacha Oceanview Middle School, where it is currently holding half-day sessions.
Demapan said the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. and the Public School System have already completed their inspections, and the private contractor that CUC had recommended, Kimco Enterprises Inc., will be repairing the school’s electrical system.
She said Kimco was given the go-signal about three weeks ago and is just waiting for the materials to arrive in order to begin the repair work.
Demapan said Kimco informed her that it will take about eight weeks for the materials to arrive in the CNMI. She said the last update she got from the contractor was that they were completing the permit and paperwork needed prior to the materials arriving in order to begin the repairs.
Demapan said she talked with previous Education commissioner Glenn Muña about the project. “It’s just a matter of the materials getting here in time so that they can do the work,” Demapan said.
An overloaded junction box at the school that was emitting smoke prompted KagES to relocate. The issue just came days before the school’s opening last Sept. 3.
