Ten high school students in the Northern Marianas will not only be competing on fashion, but will also be raising environmental awareness in the CNMI at this year’s Marianas Next Top Model.
Now on its eighth run, the 2019 Marianas Next Top Model runs on the theme “Fashion in Trash” with its pageant red carpet coronation night set on Dec. 1 at the Fiesta Resort & Spa in Garapan.
“We are focusing on trash as a theme to help save mother Earth and to help our environment in the midst of climate change,” event organizer Sharmaine Casquero said.
This year’s contestants are Kimberly Michelle Santos, Chloe Meldain Lopez, Jenica Isabel Suarez Hidalgo, Alianna Layne Sublemente, Adriane Jay Manalang, Nathaniel Maesa, Merari Guzman, Elaiza Songco, and Charles Asistores.
The modeling competition will also have the contestants strut the runway wearing clothes made from recycled materials.
Recognizing the need to address the growing trash problem in the CNMI, the Marianas Next Top Model contestants will be joining clean up sessions, as well as conduct tree planting activities with the Micronesia Islands Nature Alliance.
The young models will also meet with the officials of the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality.
The 2019 Marianas Next Top Model is directed and choreographed by Casquero and is produced by the Saipan Unity Lions Club.
