Joeten 1 ousts Triple J to reach finals

Joeten 1 took the first finals seat after pulling off an 87-83 overtime win over Triple J in Game 2 of their semis series in the 2018 JP World Corp. Customer Appreciation Basketball League last Saturday at the Gillette Multipurpose Gymnasium.
Vincent Teregeyo, Ernest Duenas, K.J. Kabiriel, Tom Augustin, and Chris Lilles teamed up in the extra period to help Joeten 1 sweep the best-of-three series and advance to the championship round.
Joeten 1 needed to work doubly hard in overtime after Triple J managed to battle back after falling behind by double-digits in the first quarter. Triple J, however, failed to complete its comeback after making only two field goals in the extension, courtesy of Ted Vivero’s deuce and Emanuel Cobacha’s triple.
Lilles and Teregeyo top-scored for Joeten 1 after firing 15 points apiece, while Kabiriel added 12, and Lauron and Augustin contributed 10 each.
Lauron had 6 of his total markers in the first period that ended with Joeten on top, 20-10. Four other Joeten 1 players scored in the opening canto to give the team early control of the game.
Joeten 1 continued to spread the wealth in the second period, while Cobacha started to wax hot from downtown and his triples (three) in that quarter allowed Triple J to cut the deficit to 5 at the break, 36-41.
Cobacha was still in a zone from beyond the arc in the third frame, adding three more triples, but a basket from Kabiriel helped Joeten 1 cling to a shaky lead, 58-57, going into the fourth quarter.
In the final canto, Cobacha was held to one trey, but it’s a big one, as his long shot sent the game into overtime. Bryan Santos also helped triple J extend the game after scoring 14 of his 27 points in the fourth period.
However, Triple J still fell short in the end, as it struggled in overtime, while Joeten 1 had multiple players stepping up to march to the finals against the winner of the Top Development, Inc.-RNV/Best Deal semis series.
