CPA to revamp harbor rules
The Commonwealth Ports Authority would soon revamp the existing rules and regulations governing the operation of the islands’ seaports.
CPA executive director MaryAnn Lizama reported this to the board of directors, who were also informed about the creation of a panel that would spearhead the creation of these potential changes to the existing procedures.
“CPA will be revamping the harbor rules and regulations to update, change, and modify the current harbor rules to reflect and cater to our CNMI harbors,” according to Lizama, who said that a seven-member committee was recently established to work on this project.
The members of the committee include seaport facilities chair Benigno Sablan; Saipan ports manager Christopher Tenorio; Lizama herself; Rota ports supervisor Rodney Taisacan; assistant Tinian ports manager Gerald Crisostomo; representatives of the U.S. Coast Guard; and the appointment of a counsel upon the completion and formation of the committee.
According to Lizama, a meeting date will be scheduled once all parties have been officially informed about their appointments to the panel.
Besides the harbor rules, also up for changes is the CPA’s personnel rules and regulations.
Lizama disclosed that a meeting is expected to be scheduled soon for board members to hear the initial draft of the proposal.
